Ted,
Thanks for the kind comments. And glad to see that you checked out the prophetdata site. It took me a lot of searching to find that site but they appear to have some of the best historical data available.
As far as whether or not Metastock is user friendly enough or easy enough to get up to speed quickly, I would have to say a definitive "yes". I have looked at many of the other charting programs including Supercharts, Windows on Wall Street, TC2000 etc. and I really cannot honestly say that they are better than Metastock. Barron's has reviewed these programs for two years running and both times decided on Metastock. If you do decide to get it, be sure to wait for the latest 6.5 version which has a few enhancements (should be available by next week).
Plus, you may not need the historical data from the prophetdata site because the Metastock program comes with a historical data CD which has 5 years of historical data on all common stocks. It also has the DJIA back to 1900 in the program itself in the 'sample data' folder.
I am not sure what you were asking about the Excel data compatibility. I know that you can drag and drop charts from Metastock right into Excel and Word.
By the way I am putting the finishing touches on the comparison charts that I constructed and may be able to upload them to you or others here soon.
I also just completed some projected volume figures for the NYSE (assuming this whole crash scenario continues to play out according to historical trends). I have calculated that NYSE volume should start swelling to the following numbers in the preceding 3 days before the final 'crash' (or October 19, 1987 equivalent):
755,000,000.00 952,000,000.00 1,700,000,000.00
This is going to be very interesting..
