I did a search on "How to get a raccoon out of your attic?" and found several companies to call. Called one that is a National Company and they guarantee to free up a raccoon or one with babies and remove them to a wildlife refuge. The cost was rather high as they try to find their entrance and repair any damage that was done to prevent them or any others to again gain entrance. They would want to replace any insulation that the animal had used for excretions as the smell would run us out of the house, they said. This article said that our home owner's policy would probably cover any damage and the repairs and I will call our insurance company to verify it. I asked for a quote and she said it would involve an inspection all around the house and the minimum would probably be $700.00 up to remove the raccoon and depending on any repairs that had to be done. If the animal came down the chimney, the screen on the top would have to be replaced and I can buy one to fit that expands or decreases to the right size at Home Depot for $13.95. I think I need to check further on this with some of the other companies. Going to call the SPCA and ask them also. Have not heard any noises from the attic tonight, but will listen when the house gets very quiet after I retire for the night. The Raccoon Saga Goes On, Tune in Later. <gg>
