The ignorance and apathy of successive SA governments since AIDS first appeared in the 1980's always amazed me. I remember in 1990 or so when USAID gave its first AIDS grant to a Soweto NGO, there was nothing from the SA government about AIDS anywhere. Sadly, the new government substituted ignorance and foolishness for apathy with similar results.

AIDS will burn out somewhat and stabilize at a typical chronic disease level eventually. But I'm afraid that is still several million deaths away.
