Actually, at least in pro baseball, the pitcher gets the least overall exercise of any player.

Look around at the pro teams and you'll see some of the pitchers have quite a gut. They don't bat or have to run bases or catch flyballs in the field, and they only pitch a limited number of times per week. For some, it's probably a long, strenuous walk to the pitcher's mound from the dugout.

The rest of the guys have to be fast on their feet AND be able to throw a ball hard.<<gg>>
