Yes, the last few days have seen several posters whose conduct wouldn't satisfy a strict code of conduct. They were partisan, inflammatory and not at all measured or polite. From the right and the left.

None, however, crossed the line of being personally abusive.

I face this dilemma: I can let the partisan players use this thread as a neutral ground as long as they behave, or I can toss 6-8 posters and restrict the thread to what I consider are genuine moderates who don't make bad jokes, rant and rave, etc.

For now I am inclined to leave the lines broad rather than loose. The idea, after all, is to build a center where none existed on SI before. That means reaching out to both sides.

I am frankly surprised that non-centrists seem to come back to this thread and post repeatedly. There must be something about the concept that appeals, even when there are posters who don't match other posters' political prejudices.

If anyone gets abusive, they will be outta here. As far as partisan foolishness and bad taste, I'll take that on a case by case basis. If a majority really want me to clean house and pare down the participants, I will.

But a lot of folks out there won't like it much. I see infractions on both sides almost daily now.
