OK- I understand what you are saying, although I don't think I totally agree since I just don't think terrorism emerges from a vacuum without an impetus causing the reaction, whether that stimulus is active or passively unintentional. Terrorism being "the unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons implies to me that it's a response to something.

Otherwise wouldn't it be just pure, random violence? Like a serial killer- I don't think of them as terrorists.

However, I don't equate terrorism with protest and don't believe that the substitution of other terms for terrorist is accurate. I have to agree with Kholt that terrorism becomes a different animal, though it may contain the seeds of protest.

ACtually I have no idea any more what the question is.
