- There was no Iraq war when the WTC was first bombed in 1993.

There wasn't? That's news to me and everyone else who follows history. We had just completed a war in Iraq in 1991 in which over 100,000 Iraqi civillians were killed and then 100,000s more afterwards as a result of sanctions. In 1993 we still had the illegal no fly zones over Iraq and were bombing them at will.

I'm not going to be naive and say that perhaps muslim extremists haven't struck for ulterior reasons, like furthering their own existence amongst their supporters and to help raise funds (two strong reasons terrorism is perpetuated), but it is our (Western, including countries like Australia) involvement in the muslim world that makes us a big fat target for attack. We would lessen our risk of terrorism significantly if we disengaged from their world. Why that obvious option is not discussed by American media and politicians is truly baffling?!?
