the woman got herself pregnant on purpose to force the man (who was leaving her) to stay with her I don't have anything against discussing such twisted individuals and their sad homes, but I think we are digressing a little bit. why should the man be responsible for the consequences of what the woman chose to do (or not do) with her body? Are you talking about child support now? If so, I already agreed with you that I don't find it a fair practice that the man has to support a child that may have resulted even from a one night stand. I suppose it is the society's way of ensuring that babies are cared for - "one size fits all" kind of a solution - that the father always has to support the babies he makes, voluntarily or involuntarily. (sadly most men are not that smart in this department) Oh and is that not an understatement :-)
