I don't "confuse"- bold is a synonym.
Synonyms: brave, courageous, fearless, intrepid, bold, audacious, valiant, valorous, mettlesome, plucky, dauntless, undaunted
Fearless, bold, dauntless, undaunted, and intrepid do not have any elements of "good" (necessarily) and neither does brave- it is nowhere in the definition, and since bold is listed as a synonym....evil people can be all these things. "Brave" is considered one of the most non-specific words dealing with this particular human quality, according to a long dictionary passage I read. I understand that you would like to limit it to the meaning you want it to have, but I see no reason to so limit it, in any of the dictionary definitions I've read. You can, of course, continue to use a very limited and personal definition for the word, but it does not agree with the dictionaries broader take on the matter, and although I can understand why you want to limit it, it makes as much sense to me as insisting that no evil people who attack civilians could be called "good-looking". |
