It's not often I agree with most Republicans, but I agree with him. He may be an idiot - maybe, maybe not - but I agree on this issue. I am on the libertarian to progressive side on many non-defense issues - but if Muslim terrorists say "take out" New York, Chicago, LA and DC - then you bet I want Mecca to be a smoking pile of ashes. Medina too of course, or you haven't got the deterrent effect.
Even the destruction of one major US city would cause chaos here - including a likely economic Depression, plus likely end in martial law. Can you imagine the consequences?
I don't take lightly threatening to destroy their sites - but the rest of their world must know that the thing they value above life itself is vulnerable - in case major US or European cities are destroyed.
So, they either police the fanatics, or suffer the consequences.
I have no problem with the nuclear annihilation of Mecca and Medina - as well as Cairo, Tehran, and Damascus in response to the destruction say of New York, Chicago, LA, or DC.
If we did nothing, we would be inviting more of the same - and I don't believe pacifism works - it's been demonstrated throughout history not to.

A Colorado congressman told a radio show host that the U.S. could "take out" Islamic holy sites if Muslim fundamentalist terrorists attacked the country with nuclear weapons.
Rep. Tom Tancredo made his remarks Friday on WFLA-AM in Orlando, Fla. His spokesman stressed he was only speaking hypothetically.
Talk show host Pat Campbell asked the Littleton Republican how the country should respond if terrorists struck several U.S. cities with nuclear weapons.
"You're talking about bombing Mecca," Campbell said.
"Yeah," Tancredo responded.
The congressman later said he was "just throwing out some ideas" and that an "ultimate threat" might have to be met with an "ultimate response."
Spokesman Will Adams said Sunday the four-term congressman doesn't support threatening holy Islamic sites but that Tancredo was grappling with the hypothetical situation of a terrorist strike deadlier than the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. |
