no trouble restocking their ranks .... How do they do it? The extreme groups profit from the fact that the people in Iraq and to some extend Afganistan have fewer alternatives now than they did before the U.S. invasions. The inhabitants are now faced with dangerous collaberation with the occupiers, or harsh fundamentalist dictators. Formerly they had the option of being rather apolitical and sticking to their family and tribal concerns. It's been a long conflict, longer than WWII and many of them just want it to be over, even if that means an honorable suicide ending. TP
