I grew up learning to appreciate music when the transition from hillbilly......... the original Jimmy Rogers and Bill Monroe.....to rockabilly, Johnny Horton and Roger Miller, took place. I learned to do the jitterbug to Benny Goodman and the Mills Brothers when I was very, very young. I've been listening to country western (again) lately, and I must say I admire those artists that take the time to create songs that the average person can enjoy without struggling with complicated mixtures of loud, ear shattering instrumentals and hard to decipher lyrics. And I love the patriotic message found is so many country western pieces.
I have sung Italian operas on an amateur basis, but country western music hits an emotional cord with me, and I appreciate its candor. Its soulful, flowing tenor is easy to mimic also.
I don't know what time zone you live in, but if you ever get a chance, link into this program on a Saturday night. You might want to download it onto your I-Pod or MP3 player after you've given it a chance. It is wonderful background, a real musical history lesson, and a glorious way to spend a summer evening.
Not that Nirvana isn't a real history lesson, but I think you know where I'm coming from?
