rockabilly

It was the rockabilly movement in the early 90s that brought back swing. In '93, An old Brown Derby in Los Feliz was converted to a swing supper club under the name of "The Derby." The house band that was hired was called "The Royal Crown Revue," who were playing a rockabilly style fast beat. "Russell Scott and the Red Hots" was a typical rockabilly band that did well also. They drew the rockabilly crowd and in the midst of that were the lindyhoppers, who had a place to learn to dance that style in LA since 1985 at a dance studio called, "Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association." When people who had showed up for the rockabilly saw the lindy dancers, they wanted in, and lindy took off again. Soon the rockabilly crowd was gone, and everything was Benny Goodman style again.

I had a great five years in that scene in the 90's.
