Quickening was the earliest that life could be felt moving and was therefore thought to also be the time that life with a Soul began. The time that movement is felt is a function of the amount of body fat the Woman has and provides a poor standard to measure ones Humanity by. We now now with certainty that Human life begins at conception. I have purposely left the topic of the Soul aside for the purpose of clarity. "So exactly what would have been their objections to it?" They would have objected to it based on the fact that it is wrong to take innocent Human life without proper justification, because all Human life is created by God and is intrinsically valuable. Today we have a much clearer scientific view of what constitutes a Human life and therefore have a higher responsibility to preserve it.
