Whenever someone says he'd like to see me at, say, 8 a.m., I simply respond that I don't stay up that late.

It's 4 a.m. here in Chicago. That's a sensible time to go to bed. Keeping these ridiculous hours, though, cause societal problems for me. People simply don't understand that I'd rather be called on the phone at 1 a.m. rather than even as early as 9 a.m. I tell my clients to try not to disturb me earlier than, oh, 10 a.m. I really want to say 11 a.m.

In reality, the only civilized time to call me in the morning--at all--is between midnight and 2 a.m.
