When you obliterate the line between politics and religion, who can say how much of each is there. That's more of a western distinction in this case, IMHO.

I think it's fair to say that religious extremism or absolutism, whatever you want to call it, is an accelerant for volatile political situations involving nationalist issues like foreign occupation.
