Personally, I think the numbers should match the pools of candidates in the real world and if affirmative action is used to push those numbers into balance when required is fine with me. When the quota's go beyond the percentage in pools I have a bit of a hard time supporting them.

The exception I would support would be in school admissions - since the only way to grow the pool is to educate the imbalanced group.
