Fortunately, I live under a living system that is amenable to fixes. I am not left with the simple choice you offer.

No need. Fortunately there is a large number of doctors to choose from. So it isn't a simple choice of dishonorable and skilled verses honest but unskilled. So, I can compare and contrast. I am confident that I will be able to identify a surgeon that I both trust and admire for his skill. Much like in every other profession. I can dismiss the incompetent and the dishonorable forced choice that you offer.
