The "pro-life" movement has been very deceitful, irrational, corrupt and even insane. They have also become an ally of the Karl Rove/Tom DElay dirty tricks division of the RNC.
In fact, the scoundrels "pro-life" teams up with include many in the "death" business, from weapons to tobacco to pollutors and toxic chemical companies right down the line. They also are teamed with those who are against public health care for infants, a cleaner environment and aid to poor countries. Not to mention sex education and safe, sane birth control.
What the Schiavo Case taught us all was that seeing the world in black and white is just dishonest and unrealistic. Schiavo was noty suffering. She was ready to die. Letting her die was the right thing. Lying about her condition and threatening our judges was not the right thing.
Death comes in all forms all the time. Death is part of life. Death for the terminally ill can even be a good thing.
Every day we kill people in Iraq and they kill us. Every day babies die of starvation all over the world. Every time we eat a burger it's because something died so we could cut it up and fry it. Every day death happens, fair or unfair. And it's hard to put rules on dying. So unless it's literal murder, pointless or selfish slaughter it's very hard to legislate. That's why the pro-life groups falsely define abortion as "murder". It isn't murder, not even remotely close, it's a fairly simply medical procedure on what is usually a tiny foetus no more developed than a tadpole.
People can argue all they want about whether a foetus is a "kid" but the pro-life groups are very dishonest about their science. In fact they reject science. Science and rational thought are their enemies. They also reject sex and sexual freedom because they reject birth control.
Bottomline, even if you're against abortion rights you should not want it criminalized. That will just create worse problems, not to mention violating the rights of women. Nobody likes abortions, but nobody likes taxes, wars or operations either. Terminating some pregnancies is just a fact of life. Necessary sometimes. The lesser of two evils to the persons involved. And so is unplugging the terminally ill.
To the "pro-life" movement I say, get honest, get real and get over it. Also support RU-486 and sex education. Those two things make abortions practically obsolete. |
