What I am trying to say is that a research study is controlled and based on scientific principles. The number of acres is not the only significant factor. I think what you are saying is that if farmers across the Midwest were experiencing what the study shows--that corn and soybeans grown under organic methods garner the same sized crop and do less environmental damage--they would not be using pesticides on these crops. That is interesting anecdotally, BUT there are other factors at play. For example, if farmers have to work harder to grow these crops organically, they may choose to use pesticides even if their crops are not really larger overall.

I don't understand what famines in Africa have to do with this discussion--can you explain?
