Many European countries (Germany is a prime example) are extremely selective about granting citizenship to immigrants. Germany has a huge Turkish minority. Almost all are considered "guest workers" and could be sent home tomorrow (with great disruption to the German economy, not to mention the Turkish economy). Most guest workers perform jobs that natives refuse to do so the idea of sending them all home never gets very far once people start thinking about it, rather like all those people who want to send the illegals back to Mexico (or wherever) but not their own maid, gardener, handyman, carpenter, etc.

Oh well, we can't solve the world's problems tonight so I will amble off to bed.
