But many Sunnis believe federalism is a first step to divide the nation. Most of Iraq's oil wealth is in the north and the mostly Shiite south.

That's one of the ironies. The Sunnis who are fighting the government have the most to benefit from a united Iraq where they would presumably share in the oil wealth.

In the end, to the Iraqi's, as it is to us, it's "all about the oil". Lot's of wealth riding on the outcome.
