Well, the notorious CAIR has finally found a terrorist it doesn’t like, or (to be more direct) one that it really loves! This would be Eric Robert Rudolph, the Olympic Park bomber, whom CAIR identifies as a “Roman Catholic” in a press release, “The Eric Rudolph Exception,” which is nearly as badly titled as it was timed (as we’ll see in a moment). Ibrahim Hooper, the author of the piece, wanted to make a point that Rudolph was not the only exception to non-Muslim religious terror, since he follows Timothy McVeigh. Apparently the claim of three fatal bombings over twenty-five years is supposed to compare favorably with thousands of Islamic attacks in just the last three.
This charge is problematic and here’s why. First, we can concede that drug-trafficker Eric Rudolph was probably motivated to violence by his odd faith, even though he did not cite it in his confession (neither are we aware of any connection between the Olympics and the Bible). But, as Hooper surely knows, Timothy McVeigh never tried to justify his action with any appeal to any religion, despite ample opportunity. So Rudolph actually does remain the exception… and an exception usually proves a rule... "CAIR" to guess what that is?
CAIR also makes a point of mentioning Rudolph’s alleged former membership in a racist organization called the “Christian Identity Movement” (universally condemned by all Christian denominations). This “guilt by association” tactic is particularly ironic because the very day that CAIR chose to make this claim, one of CAIR’s own founders was convicted of supplying funds to the Hamas terrorist group, which is responsible for the deliberate deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians.
