Jane Roberts does seem like a very nice lady, but waiting until age 41 to get married and start a family? The biological clock is not imaginary . . . . statistically, her chances of conceiving a healthy child at that age were quite low.

Both were age 41 at first marriage. That does seem very strange to me. Their drive to achieve as lawyers seems much stronger than their drive to have a family.

This is sort of a sour grapes topic for me. I got pregnant during law school and didn't try for the clerkships or the big firms. So I am a little jealous, I guess. But still think I made the right decision, at least for me and my own kids.

There's really no way to "have it all" if you're female, unless your husband is willing to be the "wife" and even that is not really satisfactory. Biology always wins.
