re: "point of approach" ... Would he have not run from the authorities if approached just outside the house, but only ran from them because he was approached beyond the house? It's more likely that as he was intent upon eluding questioning, he'd run whether in front of the house, or in the train station.He'd be dead either way with that choice.

Did it really pass through his mind, "Well, if I'm stopped in front of the house, I'll cooperate, but if it's any where near the train station, I'm bolting for it." Point of approach has nothing to do with it.

He made an overall decision, to which he got an overall result.
