There has been a bit of a pop on recent news Ambient has another test with San Diego Gas and Electric. My understanding is the deal is limited to testing the utility's remote monitoring of its lines, meter reading, etc. rather than internet access. As I read this play, it seems there are doubts whether BPL can ever compete with phone or cable internet access, but it seems it can thrive where these are absent: rural America, rural Europe and third world. In such locations, wireless WiMax may be the main competitive internet access technology. Also not clear to me how Ambient's proprietary technology stacks up against competitors, which seem to be privately held companies. There has been some general purpose pumping in this Board. I would be interested in hearing from someone with a handle on the technology rather than flag wavers.
