Who knows where this comes out. But it was clearly serious enough for the CIA to bring a complaint and for Justice to serve it. And, eventually, for a special prosecutor to be appointed. Something is going on. And we'll soon know.

After Novak had told the CIA in advance, very properly, that he was going to name Plame in his column, and the CIA said that was fine.

One of the amusing aspects of this affair is watching those on the left who have spent their careers trying to close the CIA get all outraged over the supposed 'outing' of an already well-known operative. Meanwhile, when the NYT outs an entire CIA current operation, that is praiseworthy, never mind if it gets anybody killed.

What is serious in the affair is the ongoing war of the CIA ranks against the White House. What is serious as a heart attack is their attempt to shift the blame for their own gross incompetence somewhere else.

After all, which do you think the CIA would rather have discussed? The supposed 'outing' of Valerie Plame, or the accuracy of the reports she produced on WMDs?
