We were not very "loud or urgent" against Al Qaeda for some time before 9/11, and the last time we were loud or urgent was in response to an Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. In any case its not all about "root causes". Even if you can twist things to blame the US for the conflict with Al Qaeda and their ilk, the conflict exists as a fact. If the US pulls out of Iraq without the government establishing some sort of order there than we just seem weaker and we risk Iraq becoming a nice base of such terrorists to grow stronger. Tim
