Raikkonen's rotten luck at the Hockenheim left the Finn, well finished as his blistering early pace open a huge gap between himself and current leader Fernando Alonso, who as usual, kept cool behind the pushing Raikkonen in second place.
After the McLaren's engine expired, Fernando took over the lead, never to give it up again, and won comfortably from Juan Pablo Montoya's Mclaren, who himself had one of the greatest races of his career.
The Colombian had an indiscretion in the final turn of his qualifying lap and spun the Mclaren off the track and damaged front and rear left side corners of his car...
This translated into 'no qualifying time' for Juan Pablo and a start at the back of the grid.
However, JP drove as if he was possessed and in the first two laps he moved from 20th to 10th, at which point his progress was slowed down by back marker traffic... still at the end, he managed second spot behind Alonso... Juan Pablo in an interview, estimated he could have won and made two wins in a row after his brilliant victory in Silverstone at the British GP.
Jenson Button managed to pass last year's World Champion Michael Schumacher and finished the podium placing.
Giancarlo Fischichella once again missed the podium by one place arriving in 4th, however, he nipped it from M Schumacher in the last two laps of the race, so the champion had to be content with 5th....
Brother Ralph in his Toyota claimed sixth, never say die David Coulthard took seventh, and Brazilian Felipe Massa took 8th, the last point paying position....
