The San Rafael farmers' market is also large, and has very wonderful baked goods, including peanut butter cookies I used to love. It also has a larger variety of things in general, a lot more salad greens with nasturtiums and bags of delicious oranges from the Central Valley, and really nice crafts. I think the prices are a bit lower than the SF one, also.
Now I'm remembering more-wonderful varieties of flavored pistachio nuts, many varieties of dates, the mushroom woman, all sorts of wonders, really. If you ever feel like taking a drive up there on Sunday morning, it is just 101 North to the exit where the Frank Lloyd Courthouse and municipal buildings are, get off the highway and follow the signs to the farmers' market. Occasionally it is moved a short distance away if there is a fair or something, but still just follow the signs when you exit the freeway.
Hiking up Mt. Tamalpais is a wonderful thing to do when you are in Marin County, and whatever you do, please, please go to the Muir Woods. Just awe inspiring. I would do those things on a weekday because they are too crowded on the weekend. They are close to each other and could be done on the same day if you have a lot of stamina. The views from Mt. Tamalpais are stunning, so be sure to go when the day is clear in San Francisco, or you'll miss the vistas. |
