If they were so great, what happened to them? Why did they get conquered? If they were so brilliant, they would have found a way to defeat or make peace with Rome. the Bible intolerantly condemns all "pagan" worship Yes, it does. That's why it's the First Commandment. The Arts, Philosophy, Sciences...the perfection of man The Bible is not big on "this world, this life, etc." If you place your priorities along the lines of worldly wealth and power, no matter how much you achieve it will always seem empty. What rules the world of men - science, money, power - is of little importance to God. If you believe in "the perfection of man," you are only in for disappointment.
