EXPERIMENTAL WAL-MART SUPERCENTRE UTILIZES SOLAR INTEGRATED SMARTROOF
Solar Integrated Technologies today announced the completion of an experimental solar roof at a Wal-Mart Supercentre in McKinney, Texas. The project was part of an overall effort on the part of Wal-Mart’s commitment to good corporate citizenry and environmental stewardship. The new Supercentre has been built as an experimental environmental “control store” for comparison against similar stores that have the same basic footprint, general design, and most importantly, the same climate. Being able to have a baseline for comparison will help Wal-Mart accurately rate the performance of the many energy saving experiments installed in the new Supercentre.

Solar Integrated was invited to offer its unique building integrated photovoltaic roofing system as part of the many environmental technologies Wal-Mart is evaluating in cooperation with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Wal-Mart anticipates that the various energy saving systems incorporated into the new store will:

· Save enough energy to power 1800 homes;

· Provide enough hot water for 26 homes per year;

· Avoid importing 795 barrels of oil;

· Relieve 1.6 million kWh from the utility grid each year;

· Eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by over 800,000 pounds per year.

Over the next few years, as data is analyzed, Wal-Mart hopes to establish a corporate best practice approach to environmental conservation that will serve as a design standard not only for future Wal-Mart stores but for the retail industry in general.

Mr. Jon Slangerup, CEO of Solar Integrated commented, “We are very excited and impressed with Wal-Mart’s commitment to energy sustainability. We believe that it is precisely this type of corporate role model that will make the world a better place for future generations and Solar Integrated is proud to have been involved in this project.”
