More accurately I am saying that the current NPT can only buy us a very limited amount of time before everyone has a nuke. Therefore if we adjust our clocks a little bit and try to move ahead of our time, we will see that the military "option" is no option at all. We will then (i.e. in our nuclear near future) will try to resolve conflicts based on cooperation, respect, equality, and of course humanity and compassion.

Since this is what we'll have to do anyway, then we may as well do it now. Doing it now has the advantage that we can hammer out better deals and fix the conflict resolution mechanism better because after all, not everyone has a nuke now (though they will).

Now if we build this system well, then the motivation for a global nuclear arms race will be much weaker. As a result we will have achieved much better progress on nuclear non-proliferation, which after all is the stated (real?) goal of NPT

Does this make sense now?
