Nobody says you outlaw large cars, but they are going to cost more unless the auto industry can figure a way to get better mileage.

They already cost more, as does the fuel to keep them going. That's the natural product of the fact that they use more resources. I don't support adding an additional amount on top of that by government fiat.

You seem to grudgingly support current regulation and tax incentives but object to ones that favor fuel efficiency.

I don't know that I would really say I support current regulations. It might be accurate to say that I accept some of them. There probably would be better ways to deal with some of the safety issues but society isn't going to totally reorganize itself on a different model any time soon.

Safety regulations (esp. the more sensible ones) at least has the justification that unsafe cars fairly directly lead to people dieing. Fuel economy has no such justification.

Also there is the fact that we wouldn't be swapping the current safety regs for your ideas, but rather increasing the total amount of regulation.
