That's silly. There's nothing violent about "protest." Look it up in the dictionary. It's the assertion of an objection. Lashing out violently at the perceived offenders is another matter.


Nothing violent about protest, eh? You don't think Chicago 1968 was a political protest? You don't think Attica was a political protest? You don't think Watts was a political protest? You don't think Governor Faubus blocking the steps of the U of Miss by force was a political protest? You don't think the Black Panthers were making a political protest? You don't think the Seattle WTO protests were a political protest?

You and I have a very different idea of what constitutes a political protest, I guess.

Sure, protest can be nonviolent, as it was in much (but not all) of the civil rights movement. But not all political protest is nonviolent, and just because it becomes violent doesn't mean it isn't political protest.
