"Nice prose....

Thank you.

”…the usual marketing type pap put out to justify our bringing "liberty" to others. “

I understand your cynicism, as I am one of the biggest skeptics in the World. I agree with your implications that we as a nation are not as clean as a champion of liberty should be.

The presumption that because we are Americans we all ‘believe’ in the principles of ‘liberty’ is, frankly … false. Liberty isn’t simply acquired and horded like a treasure chest of jewels. You either embrace liberty as a way of life that must be fought for to the benefit of one and all, or you don’t. The only way you can live such a life is to join the on going struggle to end all forms of tyrannous oppression where ever it is found, including in your own heart.

”We bring liberty to those who bring "strategic benefits" to us. Their liberty is merely a consequence of our strategic manoeuvring.”

Your waggish attitude regarding our cause is disheartening. Is that your goal?

”If we are truly noble, then Darfur would never have become what it is, Rwanda would be just another small African nation that nobody knows anything about. We wouldn't need rock stars to highlight the plight of millions in extreme poverty and so on, and so on......."

The nobility of the human condition is as natural to us as breathing air but it is not as essential, and definitely not the comfortable path. It is a choice that requires a courageous spirit.

” <<"Noble human beings, by nature, regard the well being of other persons and other creatures in all endeavors.">>
