Hello, Howard
I'm a long retired eye man. We used a Hyaluronic Acid product whose trade name I've forgotten when I was doing ophthalmic surgery.
One of the big problems in cataract surgery occurs if the posterior capsule of the lens is perforated/ fractured/ruptured during the procedure.
When this occurred, one could inject a small amount of the hyaluronic acid product into the ant. chamber and hold everything back thus avoiding vitreous loss.
The stuff was sort of like vitreous in physical characteristics: transparent, viscous, not too inflammatory (tho' if you left it inside the eye, lotsa patients would develop elevated intra ocular pressures)
Well what I'm wondering is: Is this Synovisc (spelling?) by Biomatrix the identical same product?
If it is, how long does it relieve a knee patient when injected into the joint capsule if that's indeed where it's put? I would think that it would be subject to mechanical breakdown in a fairly short period of time? Can the same knee be re-injected multiple times?
It's saddening, when one has been out of the fray for a few years, to realize how quickly the precise names of some drugs, procedures, anatomic details, etc., escape the aging memory!
Thanks for information if you're able to respond, and if you have the time.
Cordially
William
P.S. My interest in the Company arose when an old high school classmate told me he was making a big chip investment in BIOX. He sufferes knee problems and is about to have an injection apparently of the product I'm attempting to discuss. |
