Your premise, logic, and conclusions are marred with fallacious rhetoric.

"It is we who gave ourselves a blank check. It is we who gave ourselves the authority to invade, occupy and kill at will."

There was a tyrannical regime in power in Iraq. The head of that regime abused his power and authority over the region to such an extent that it caused hardship not only to the people he was oppressing but also became a growing threat to peaceful coexistence of others on the globe. Such is the nature of such corruption in power.

We have the authority by natural right to stand up to and defeat such brutal despotism, individually or as a group, in fact we have an responsibility to do so as we are able. As part of that obligation we have the responsibility to support the people of Iraq until they can establish a stable and secure life that affords autonomy to the citizenry of Iraq.

Fighting terrorists (those who target innocents) is hardly a blank check to kill at will, and not at all representative of our operations in Iraq.
