When you are on your property and of sound mind, "society" cannot lawfully enter upon your property and/or dictate how you treat your body and what is in it (your property).....I believe a pregnant woman is no different than other humans when it comes to the issue of rights.
I agree... Exactly the same.
Let's go forward under the law that you are quoting above and the subsequent philosophical extension you are creating from it and presume to be true.
If I was a sick person and you invited me into your house where I was confined to a bed and on life support, you would have some responsibility for me. Even if it was your wife that initiated the whole thing without your knowledge, the same would hold true. If you asked me to leave and I could not, you would not have the right to kill me because I am on your property. If you unplugged my life support and rolled me out to the curb to die you would be guilty of murder.
When a woman becomes pregnant, I would venture to say she knows exactly what she did that made her pregnant. A most important juncture. This meant that she may soon have a visitor in her house(her body). The responsibility to the person in your house on life support or the baby in the womb on life support, both of which are parasitic, is one that cannot be remedied by killing. In both cases, choices were made and in both cases some level of responsibility that does not resort to killing must be undergone.
What or who is the "I", the "Self", or the "Ultimate observer"? It is not our arm, leg or our body. Our body(note the word "our") is our property. It is not even our mind. Our mind is our property. If our mind was our true self then who is it that is fighting the mind when it is pressuring us to do something we already decided we did not want to do? The Atoms and our body completely have changed every five years so we are not even in the same body we were in five years ago. This includes the matter of the mind. So who is this constant that carries through our life and is it in fact the true observer?
The potential "child" which develops within the body of a pregnant woman is HER PROPERTY and part of HER BODY. She is either ONE individual or she is TWO or more individuals. I say that an individual is ONE. What say you??
It is my opinion that this constant that we call "Self" does not suddenly show up when the baby leaves the vagina. If I prick the fetus with a needle when it is six months old does it hurt the baby? Hell yes it hurts! Well then, who is this observer that is feeling the pain? Does it hurt the mother? Pricking the fetus does not hurt the mother as if I pricked the mother in the arm. So how can we say the fetus or baby is part of her body if the only one feeling the pain is the baby? It seems to me that the largest part of being an individual is the ability to sense something individually. Does this not qualify? How many mothers have been murdered or otherwise killed while pregnant and then had the fetus removed alive and physically live a normal life? Does this mean that life begins the moment the murderer puts the knife in the heart of the would be mother? Under your argument this is not even a living individual but under such a tragedy we have seen these lifeless individuals go on to live fruitful lives.
Murder is legally viewed as the killing of the physical body and this body is owned by this observer. To kill a fetus that is clearly growing and can feel pain fits this description when not viewed through the smokescreen.
I have only spoken what I feel and did so without any harsh attack. I would hope that your reply is of the same character.
