Valero schedules overhaul work on three refineries
Valero Energy Corp. said Tuesday in a conference call with analysts that the company is planning major overhauls of three of its refineries during the second half of this year.

San Antonio-based Valero (NYSE: VLO) is planning a major repair of the company's 36,000-barrel-per-day West Plant hydrocracker in September.

The refining complex in Corpus Christi consists of two plants with a total throughput capacity of 340,000 barrels per day. In all, the hydrocracker will be down for 18 days.

Valero is also planning to conduct maintenance on the 55,000 barrel-per-day fluid catalytic cracking unit and the 9,500-barrel-per-day alkylation unit at its McKee refinery in October. The company will shut down these two units for 28 days. Valero will also halt production on its 104,000-barrel-per-day crude unit #2 in October for nine days.

The 175,000-barrel-per-day McKee refinery is located in the Texas Panhandle.

In addition, the company will perform heavy maintenance to its 46,000-barrel-per-day diesel hydrotreater for 20 days in October and November at its Paulsboro, N.J., refinery. The New Jersey facility has a throughput capacity of 195,000 barrels per day.

Valero does not release exact start or completion dates for competitive reasons.

Valero is an oil refining and marketing company. Its 14 refineries have a total throughput capacity of 2.5 million barrels per day.
