There still may be some countries who could start a major war, needing a lesson that unguided 500 lb bombs have been replaced by much more intelligent creations with persistent tracking devices which can seek and destroy

I can't see who. Europe, Canada, Israel and Russia are the only nations with aircraft that would give the USAF a run for its money. We aren't going to get wrapped up in a major land war in Asia against China. Not gonna happen. A Taiwan Straits scenario would be decided in a week, IMO. North Korea makes SAM Alley look like a picnic, and would be hell no matter what aircraft flew over it in anger. The most likely targets of US technology for the foreseeable future are 3rd world nations whose air defenses were christened by Breznev, if they're lucky. The B-52 has been modified to carry racks of JDAMs, too. And the B-52s carry 70,000 pounds of lethality, compared to the B-2s 40,000 pounds. That's alot more boom on Ali's turbaned head for the buck, with no need for the stealthy traits.
