History will never make any sense out of the terrorists that kill their own people as a means of protesting religious piety. Everyone keeps asking the wrong question, "Can America win this war?" We are not at war, the war is the religious fanatics blowing up Shi'a in Iraq and blaming the US for their suicide bombings.

We never took out SH because he was a low hanging fruit with WMD. He was an impotent leader with a history of genocide against Shi'a and Sunni Kurds in his country. We took him out as part of US policy to protect the Shi'a in Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine. We went to war to protect the balance of power in the ME between the Sunnis and the Shia. We used the WMD as a legal argument to justify the overthrow of SH. It was much less of an invasion than a speedy coup d'etat.

Since the overthrow, the balance of power has shifted back to the Shi'a majority in Iraq. Coupled with a Shi'a majoirty in Iran, the Persian brothers stand between the Sunni population in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Why doesn't the press tell us that the Pakistani Muslims responsible for the killings are all Sunni radicals? You may or may not accept the intervention of the US to protect the balance of power. It's not a point of policy that Bush can talk about in his speeches. However, the killing since the overthrow of SH has everything to do with AQ Sunnis trying to intimidate their Shi'a government and police forces.

It is not ironic that the Sunni insurgents are killing the Shi'a and Kurds we are fighting to protect. They are killing the Shi'a Muslims because they want to impose their power over them. The Sunni Baathists in Syria have been supporting the AQ resistance to the new government in Iraq. The Sunni Talibanis oppressed the Sunni majority and the Shi'a minority in Afghanistan. The Syrian army was thrown out of Shi'a Lebanon. The only Shi'a group the extreme Sunni terrorists have not chosen to attack yet is the Palestinians. They will attack minority Shia & even their own Sunni majority (witness Afghanistan and Egypt). They will attack the US for no apparent reason except to protest Zionist occupation of Palestine.
