Terrorism is the scourge of the modern world. Defeating terrorism will require courage, wisdom and concerted global action and leadership. Perhaps one day these qualities will be reflected in the character of the elected officials of the United States. For now we must endure people of low character who see nothing wrong with their dishonorable conduct. Of the bunch, Powell was the most obviously conflicted by having to play a role in this ugly farce, but he felt compelled to fall into line and read his script. It was a disgraceful display of misplaced loyalty -- Powell owed it to the people of the United States to put our interests ahead of his loyalty to Bush. But then he was accustomed to a chain of command where orders cannot be questioned. Bush gave the orders, or at least is repsonsible for the ordering of them. Soldiers don't decide to go to war -- they do what they are told to do by politicians.
