You are proposing a variation of Pascal's Wager. There are plenty of arguments against it, google it if you are interested. The problem is, there is no real reason to hypothesis God to begin with. That pretty much fails Occam's Razor.

You shouldn't mix faith and science. You get bad science and/or bad theology.

For what it is worth, I am in no way an atheist.
