Profi, Interesting observations. My observations tell me that only 20% of eligible Americans contribute anything to their 401k's. Also, credit card debt is at an all time high and going higher. As for people not buying anything unless they need it - you must not be married? Also, don't forget the large number of people who do contribute to their 401k's are borrowing. Very few people are like us - have investments outside their 401's. Also, according to the gov't report, consumer spending rose 4 tenths of one percent today - a reversal of trend. Welcome to America! I'm afraid that nothing has changed - we are still predominantly a "live for today" society. Regards, Gary
