Your point is that an atheist shouldn't even have an opinion (positive or negative) about something he thinks is a false symbol, right? He shouldn't even care. You could say the same thing along the lines of why should those that believe its wrong to slaughter millions of Jews be offended by a symbol that stands for the group that did - you already know its wrong, so why let it bother you?

Maybe not a very good analogy. Forget it!
