The Middle East isn't as tolerant and like the West as you and others would have us believe. The word for Saudi Arabia is not 'tolerant', its 'foreign'! I think you'd do OK as a tourist in most of the other countries of the ME, other than perhaps Iran. I recall seeing a TV show on Iran's efforts to develop a tourist industry. It was a bit of a problem convincing outsiders to come to their resorts with nice music, but you get arrested if you try to dance! Some people were swaying in their chairs, and they said they felt like the "rebellious types". It was pretty pathetic.
