Iran and the Shiite dominated Iraqi government are closer to each other than they are to anyone else including the US of A. Several months ago, a delegation from Iraq went to Iran and, although I don't remember their exact language, jointly declared NOT to recognize Israel.

After all, why should they now?

There were some 1 million christians in Iraq before we invaded, I can't imagine they're not having a very hard time in an increasingly theocratic country.
