Among the great mysteries of our time include how they constructed the pyramids in Egypt, whether or not there is intelligent life on other planets and just how in the hell Edward M. 'Teddy' Kennedy has been elected and re-elected to the United States Senate by the voters of Massachusetts for 43 years running. At any rate, back to the present....Ted Kennedy is on the Senate Judiciary Committee that will be considering the nomination of George Bush's Supreme Court nominee John Roberts.

Kennedy has said that Roberts will be expected to answer questions about how he might rule on certain cases before the court. This includes areas of liberal concern like affirmative action, abortion and other hot button topics. It's become the rallying cry of the leftists on the committee like Kennedy, Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer. Roberts will have to answer.

But it seems Kennedy was singing a different tune back when it was a liberal nominee by a Democratic president. Speaking in 1967 about Thurgood Marshall's confirmation hearings, Kennedy had this to say:

"We have to respect that any nominee to the Supreme Court would have to defer any comments on any matters, which are either before the court or very likely to be before the court. This has been a procedure which has been followed in the past and is one which I think is based upon sound legal precedent."

Of course, it's only sound legal precedent if it's a Democrat making the nomination.
