The average religious person's lack of knowledge about what the bible actually says is staggering.

Very, very few people actually bother to read it ... they feel it's important to have a copy in the house to ward off evil but when it comes to taking a couple of hours each week to pore through it most of them punt.

One of my best friends is heavily catholic and likes to go on and on about the priests and the nuns ... just to throw him off track I like to bring up parts of the bible that he is totally unfamiliar with, he is generally quite surprised by them. Basic stuff like Isaac and Lot and Job that you would think every literate person is familiar with.

I would be in favor of having bible studies as an elective in public schools just to increase the bibical literacy in this country.
